Watercolor Wonder

Hello again!

I've been working on a video to showcase the amazing stamp set Rose Wonder. I love it for it's big empty spaces just begging for color. So that's what I did!

I love capillary action. It's like instant love. You get the paint near the water and they just can't stand to wait to hug! They literally run to each other.

Did you know? There's shenanigans going on over at Splitcoast. Yep. It's Virtual Stamp Night. They have 16 challenges that you can play until April 2. There are prizes and some really cool peeps. Come over and hang out with us!

Thanks for stopping by today. Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Virtual Reality

Hello friends!

We live in an amazing world. Technology is a powerful thing, but sometimes I get really tired of people. On those days, I love to stay in my studio and make my own reality. I shut out the distractions and the social media outlets. I turn on some amazing music and just play.

Occasionally, I turn on the video just in case something nice happens on my table. Most of the time it's just cats, squirrels, and bunnehs. But this time...

I got some Yupo paper. Speaking of oxymoron. Yupo is plastic. There is nothing paper-y about it! I remember when it first hit the market. I thought it was just crazy-talk. Who would buy that expensive plastic?!?

You see... this 'paper' is much like Teflon. Nothing sticks to it. Then I saw a video that Dina Kowal made over on Splitcoast. I wouldn't attack Yupo with anything that wasn't permanent. She, being much more adventurous than I, actually watercolored on the stuff.

Water. Color. Yupo. No. Physics has rigorous demands. Then a member of Splitcoast had the audacity to issue a challenge to all of us to follow Dina into the jaws of artistic death.

Well.
You know me.
I had to. It was a dare.

I recorded it because I was certain I would die when the world I knew was destroyed. Water on plastic. You be the judge.

I did video my work using the same process with Pebeo watercolors, but apparently that video wasn't meant to be seen. Maybe my new rescue ate it? Yeah, that's a good story. The stamp is A Good Day. Watercolors react and respond very similarly to the Brusho.

I took the finished panel and cut it into strips. That was hard, but even harder was trying to cover up that beautiful effect. So I didn't. This stamp set is from Hero Arts, Smile stamp and cut.

I took a deep breath on this one before gluing down those pretty flowers. I left them black and white for 2 reasons - Lydia told me to, and I couldn't bear to have anything competing with the Brusho color riot. The stamp and die are both in the Sale-A-Bration - hurry! The offer to earn these free vanishes March 31.

Be sure you check out the challenges. There are a lot of fun ones! Some will stretch you! Hope to see you there.

Clarity Stencil Brushes

Hello friends! I have a little project for you today with a short and sweet video. I have these Clarity Stencil Brushes that I just love. I love to pet them and say sweet things to them, then carefully put them back in their homes. No more!

Aren't they pretty!? I wanted to see how they would work with Distress Oxide inks over a stencil with glossy paper. Here's a short video.

I used the background I made as sky for my unicorn. Don't tell him he's not a Pegasus. No one needs to be crushed!

You can find him with his friends and a die set. Matching (FUN) paper is also available. Check it out - isn't that AWESOME? Each paper has a glossed and glittered component. Everything you need for an awesome birthday!

Fiscal Responsibility

Here in the US we're approaching tax day. I need 2 things - supplies for creativity and enough funds to fuel that creativity. Who wants to spend a bundle and then feel like hoarders? Who?? I found a product that I'm delighted to share with you so you can get out of the hoards!

I love Ranger Ink. I do. I have full-set-itis. I caught it from some "good" friends. You know who you are. Right? I see you.

I love Ranger. I don't always love their prices. When I buy a pack of 10-sheets of paper, I really can't use it. It has to sit there and be pretty while I while I fondle it. And hoard.

That's $9 for 10 sheets plus shipping or gas to the store. And tax! It's a $1 a sheet! And if you mess up? Yeah...sad bunneh. I just couldn't do it. But there's a new technique I'm dying to try and it *requires* glossy paper.

IMPORTANT NOTE - glossy photo paper will not work. That paper is only good for making photos! Now...where was I...

I didn't get to go to Creativation. Like so many of you, I had to be satisfied with watching demo videos and photos. Of course, I hung on every word that came out of Tim Holtz' mouth. I always do. He's amazing and has changed our crafting forever!

We were both a lot younger back then. I got to take a class with him, too. Precious memories! This is the current video that got me all twitterpated.

I had a brain storm...ok, more like a brain humidity. I have Office Depot print everything for my color printing needs. I don't have the patience or funds to keep a color printer happy. After years of heartache, I just had to set them in a reed basket on the Nile. OD is my go-to sekrit-weapon for all things color printed.

Yes, I set my printer free.
Working on our BSF class register - I came across a different print option that was singing to me when I picked them up. It was a shiny finish that made the photos really pop. Wheels turning (sorry for the rusty screech), I popped in to see if I could get some of that paper. No, the print shop doesn't use the brand they sell. Odd. But they have it delivered in bulk and different regular sizes, so I understood. But wait! She said. She'd ask her manager if they sell something comparable, or if she could sell me some of her stock.

It took a few minutes, but the manager pointed me to a product called glossy brochure paper. Well, here - just watch the video.

So how is this fiscal responsibility? It comes in 100 sheets. For $25 US (or less on sale). That's about 4 cents per sheet. No fear of messing up.

Tim noted in another video that alcohol inks don't like to play well with any other medium. I found I could use my alcohol inks over the Distress Oxides after I applied the micro-glaze. I may never move away from the unique blend of these products and paper.

I hope you have some fun with it too!

Welcome to the Bunny Nest! I host rescued animals in a small in-home setting. Currently, I host 3 bunnies and 2 kitties. These animals will be socialized and housed for the entirety of their lives in my home. They inspire my crafts, and I use any proceeds to pay for their needs. Thanks for visiting!
