Chapter 6: The Red Queen's Fine Print

CHAPTER 6: The Red Queen's FINE PRINT...

"The Red Queen shook her head, "You may call it 'nonsense' if you like," she said, "but I've heard nonsense, compared with which that would be as sensible as a dictionary!"

This week we're getting down to business and reading the "fine print" here in Wonderland.

We're also SO excited to be welcoming Digital Delights by Louby Loo as our sponsor this week! WOW! What a lucky group we are! Wendy from Digital Delights has not only graced the DT with some super fun Alice-inspired images to use, but is giving away a TEN DOLLAR GIFT CERTIFICATE to one lucky winner who will be randomly drawn from all the entries this week! THANKS Wendy!

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a card using some form of TEXT/Printed DP, Old Book pages, Newspaper print, Old dictionary, etc. We just need to see SOME form of printed text on your card or project!

Need some inspiration WRITTEN out for you? Here's my sample!

{click to enlarge}

I used Gina K's pure luxury base paper for the card base, and the foundation for my little scene. I stamped some text from my Unity stash using Victorian Velvet distress ink, sewed around the piece, embossed it and distressed the edges. Wendy was gracious enough to let me play with Mad Hatter Peyton and the Toadstool House. I colored them up with Copic markers and gussied them up a bit!

Please play along, and post your creation including some fine print by Friday, April 2 in order to be eligible for our prize! Be sure to check back again next Saturday for another Sponsored event with a PRIZE up for grabs! If you upload your creation to a public gallery this week, please use keyword OAC6 (use the letter O not the number).

Mr. Linky is waiting for you at the Oh Alice! blog! Have a WONDERFUL week in Wonderland, all!

More Art Journal Goodness - and Candy!

I thought I would share with you another page in my art journal. This page was made using a prompt from my art journal group. We were to listen to music and allow the music to guide our journaling.

{click to enlarge}

Can you figure out the song I was listening to? It's written on the bottom right corner. Most of the lyrics are portrayed by the images. The top part of the page was just random stuff floating around in my brain. Yeah, I know - I'm nuts!

Would you like to start an art journal? It's really easy! You already have most of the things you need in your cardmaking or scrapbooking supplies. There are lots of resources on the internet to help you, and give you ideas. And, no, you don't need to be able to draw well to make a journal. There's a couple of ning groups that I hang out on. One is Art Journalers, the other is Milliande's Art Community for Women.

Check it out! If you decide to start an art journal, I would *love* to see your work! Leave me a link to your project, or email me. I'm happy to help you get going!

Thanks for stopping by today. Don't forget - blog candy chances end tonight!

CHAPTER 5: WHOOOOOOOO RRRRRRRRRRR YOUUUUUUUU?

CHAPTER 5: WHOOOOOOOO RRRRRRRRRRR YOUUUUUUUU?

"Who are YOU?" said the Caterpillar.
This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation.

Alice replied, rather shyly, "I--I hardly know, sir, just at present-- at least I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then."

This week we are celebrating SPRING here in Wonderland! And, we have some WONDERFUL winged-things to show off courtesy of this week's sponsor, our very own Jen Shults! Jen's stamp company, Wild Flower Kids, has grown to be a favorite of mine and we are SO honored that she's agreed to sponsor the Oh, Alice! Blog by showcasing one of her new lines "All-A-Flutter"! Jen was gracious enough to provide the DT with some of these wonderfully cute and whimsical images as well... I chose Miss Willow to work with for this project:

I colored Willow with copic markers, cut her out and popped her up with dimensionals over a Basic Grey pieced background. I added shimmer to her wings (invisible when photographed - just like faeries!) with iridescent ice embossing powder. I cut out the sentiment with my Spellbinders tags die, added Doodlebug eyelets, Gina K ribbon, button and base cardstock (all spruced up), and Michael's rhinestones.

I ADORE Jen's images!! They are so full of attitude, and the sentiments that go with them are great. I hope you'll take a minute to check out her shop - Wild Flower Patch.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it is to create a card using a CATERPILLAR or BUTTERFLY on your projects this week! You have until Friday, March 26th at 8 p.m. CST to submit your entries using Mr. Linky on the Oh Alice! challenge blog. Winner will be announced on Saturday 3/27 during our next challenge and the WINNER will receive the "All-A-Flutter" digital images from Jen! This week's keyword is OAC5.

We'll stop by to see your amazing creations! HAPPY SPRING, everyone! See you next week! OH - and don't forget, I have BLOG CANDY!!!

Unity and Candy!

I am ALMOST at 100 followers! Yippie!!! I treasure each and everyone of you! So...what do you say we give away a little stamp set? Here's what's up for grabs:

Would you like to win? Leave a comment telling me your favorite stamping supply (outside of stamps) or technique, and follow my blog. You'll have until Monday at midnight Pacific time. If you already follow, just leave me a comment about your favorite supply or technique!

Today we have a delightful challenge over at the All Things Unity blog! We are celebrating All Things GREEN! Yep - from Leprechauns to Nature we want to see what makes you all green inside! I'm half Irish, so green is especially dear to my heart. Here's my card:

One thing my Irish family is famous for is laughter: an hilariously wacky sense of humor and a deep need for constant frivolity and practical jokes. So, I couldn't help but make a card that celebrated happiness and laughter, and all in green!

Ok - I don't want to detract from the happenings of the day. You need to leave me a comment about your favorite tool, technique, or embellishment; follow my blog and then check out the challenge at All Things Unity. Then go play!!

Now, hop along to Unity's blog and see what's happening!

Just for FUN

We keep going from spring to winter here - I think a lot of us are. Mother nature's testing out spring in some areas, and it reminds me that bulbs should be sprouting. I was working in my art journal and wanted to do a monochromatic page.

{click to enlarge}

I love daffodils. Just a miracle design in my opinion, and such a sturdy plant! Here, I did one in blue watercolor crayon, with a gentle wash of water. I sealed the image with gel extender, and overlayed it with a delicate mulberry paper flecked with gold and silver metallic bits. It looks a bit like a cold snowstorm late in the evening or early  morning.

I'd love to know what you think of this. Would you like to see more of my journal entries posted here? Let me know!

Chapter 4: Picturing Wonderland

CHAPTER 4: Picturing Wonderland

"Thus grew the tale of Wonderland:
Thus slowly, one by one,
Its quaint events were hammered out
And now the tale is done,
And home we steer, a merry crew,
Beneath the setting sun.

Alice! a childish story take,
And with gentle hand lay it were
Childhood's dreams are twined.
In Memory's mystic band,
Like pilgrim's wither'd wreath of flowers
Pluck'd in a far-off land..."

We have another sketch Challenge today, this time brought to us by our very own Pam Varnell! Pam created this sketch JUST for the Oh, Alice! DT blog and it just reminds me of Wonderland itself!

Here's the sketch:

I spent some time working up a beautiful and unique project for you...only to have it shatter at the last minute. Sigh... So, I made you something else, which I think is just as special! I hope you enjoy it:

{click to enlarge}

I took an old guilded frame I had, and removed the boring old photo. I created a new background from Gina K pure luxury pumpkin spice paper, embossed with a cuttlebug folder, then I coated it with a mixture of gesso, apricot reinker and antique brown alcohol ink. Before it could dry completely, I took a damp cloth and removed much of the gesso mixture. I love the antique feel it gave!

I used a rose and a single petal flower both cut from Grungepaper and covered with old print, inked up with Ranger's distress inks. I put an old metal button on the single petal flower, and wired both flowers through the base paper.

I used an old print of the white rabbit, distressed the background and shaded his coat and fur with antique white and dark green. I put him under a piece of memory glass, edged with metal tape, and topped with an Ideology corner. With the basepaper ready and elements in place, I gently guided the piece into the frame.

Now it's your turn! We'd LOVE for you to plunge Down the Rabbit hole with us again this week! All you have to do is upload your creation and link it using Mr. Linky on the Oh Alice! blog. The keyword this week for public galleries is OAC4 (using the letter O not the number).

There's no time limit for this week's sketch, so take your time here in Wonderland and ENJOY! See you next Saturday, everyone!

Friends with Flair!

Welcome readers! Here's another wonderful Unity Friends with Flair Friday! Be sure to check out the Unity blog for the complete list of participants, and for information on sales and upcoming events at Unity. I am hearing rumors that something big will be happening at the beginning of April and YOU don't want to be left out!

We've been busy with a lot of things in preparation for spring, and one of those is trying to find time to visit my Dad. He and his friends love to play cards - they meet at his house every Friday evening. So, I put together this little project just for them.

They are getting up there in age, and some are dealing with joint issues, like me, so I thought a set of card holders would be welcome. Each card holder has a cheerful Unity sentiment and Unity images from the February 2010 Kit of the Month. I love how everything in these kits work together to make a unified project!

I used some repurposed coasters cut with my trusty nestability dies, Basic Grey papers, and Bazzill cardstock. I got the basic idea from this sample on Stamp TV. I think they will love these! They turned out so nicely, I may have to make another set or two to keep or give as little thank you gifts as I need them.

Now, look for that blinkie along your hop, leave love along your way, and hop on over to the very talented JOSLYN for the next stop along the way.

DON'T FORGET
All Things Unity is hosting a challenge with prize - you still have a week to play along!

Have a great weekend, friends!

Better Late than Never

Ok - this was sooo not the weekend I wanted. My dear hubby was home sick with a throat/sinus issue, and he went to the doctor for meds. He was so thoughtful! He brought a bug home just for me! We were thinking we'd have a relaxing long weekend to recharge and recover. Wrong! Well - he did get better, but I just kept getting worse. Ugh! Today, he's back to work and I'm just beginning to feel better.

All that to say - I'm a little behind in crafting! Happy H{ippity} Hop Monday!!

{click to enlarge}

This is my project today. I adore folding paper. Inking it's fun too, but I really love making things out of folded shapes.

{click to enlarge}

Here it is a little from the side. My friend Tisha Yoast made a darling, simple card for the release of new Lawn Fawn stamps (yay Kelly!), and I fell in LOVE with that design.

{click to enlarge}

I hope you're having a wonderful day, and that you take a few minutes to do something just for you. You're worth it!! Head back over to the ippity blog for the rest of the list, and enjoy all the eye-candy!

CHAPTER 3: Painting the Roses Red

CHAPTER 3: Painting the Roses Red

"Would you tell me please," said Alice a little timidly, "Why are you painting those roses?"

Five and Seven said nothing, but looked at Two. Two began in a low voice, "Why the fact is, you see, Miss, this here ought to have been a Red rose tree, and we put a white one in by mistake"...

Welcome back! We're painting the Roses RED...and blue...and purple....and hey, we're painting our NAILS too! Check out this AWESOMELY ALICE inspiration picture featuring this SUPER cool new O.P.I. Polish collection, "Wonderland".

Isn't this a wicked inspiration? We can't wait! Here's my project:

{click to enlarge}

Yes - this is another page in my Art Journal! I loved working on this one! I'm so excited - the movie is here, and I'm going to get to see it soon. Yippie! I used a lot of custom mixed perfect pearl and distress reinker colors for the background, distress and regular stickles for the texture on the Red Queen's dress and roses, and smooch for soft metallic shimmer. It's a little hard to see, but the Queen is popped up with dimensional adhesive that really gives her a 'natural' appearance.

Before we get started, the Oh,Alice! Blog has a SPECIAL Tea Party Guest joining us for the month of March! Please welcome ERIN LEVEILLE as our March Tea Party Guest! Erin BLEW US AWAY with this card she submitted for the 1st Oh, Alice challenge and we are thrilled to have her at our Mad Tea party this month :) WELCOME ERIN!

What's more? We have a FABULOUS sponsor for this challenge-KRAFTIN' KIMMIE STAMPS! It just so happens that Kim is releasing some AWESOME Tea Party images this month and was gracious enough to donate a PRIZE pack including some of the new rubber stamp collection featuring these awesome new images! The DT is THRILLED To have been able to work with them, too!

You can play along with us! Just create a project based on the inspiration piece. Include the colors red, purple and blue in your project and link it up to the Oh Alice! blog by uploading your card or creation to Mr. Linky and by using keyword OAC3 (remember, use the letter O, not the number!) if you upload to a public forum such as SCS :)

You will have until FRIDAY, MARCH 12th, 2010 to enter this challenge and the winner will be chosen via Random.org and announced during our next challenge on Saturday, March 13th! Good luck and have an AWESOMELY ALICE kind of week!

Hippity Hopping!

Happy Monday friends! The winter Olympics are over for another 4 years. Wow. They were great! Loved that we had an Olympic themed VSN too! You can still play - submissions are due at 10 pm Eastern tonight.

Meanwhile, back on the ranch we have {ippity} projects to share!

{click to enlarge}

I made this card for my challenge to use the technique of tea bag folding. It was a lot of fun to make! I started with 8 squares of Basic Grey and folded them using the kite fold.

{click to enlarge}

I really love the dimension with this! It's a little hard to see, but I also did some decorative scoring where the sentiment is. Fun!

Well, I hope you have a great day and enjoy everything on the hop (full list here). See you soon!

Cool runnings. Peace be the journey! ~ky
Welcome to the Bunny Nest! I host rescued animals in a small in-home setting. Currently, I host 3 bunnies and 2 kitties. These animals will be socialized and housed for the entirety of their lives in my home. They inspire my crafts, and I use any proceeds to pay for their needs. Thanks for visiting!
