It's a Buns & Noble Kinda Day

Hello, friends out in cyber land! How is your Saturday shaping up? Mine is cloudy and cool. Perfect for a cuppa joe and a good book. I was roaming around the blogs recently and found the perfect sketch to convey my feel for this day. I used the Card Patterns Sketch #19 for this:

Kinda like Reading Flopsey here! Just a quick project I tossed together with ingredients laying on my stamping table. I love Flopsey. He does stuff we all love to do! And, he colors up just like my two girls really easily. For this card, I used Gina K's Chocolate Kiss pure luxury cardstock, SU! patterned paper, Offray ribbon, Robin's Nest dew drops, Memento tuxedo black ink, Bazzill's orange textured cardstock, my EK Success border punch, and my QuicKutz Revolution Alpha-dies. I colored Flopsey and his books with prismacolor pencils using the Gamsol Method.

It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

There's a song for the day! Yes...it's Thursday, and this is my post for Friday, and I don't have any Unity on my blog! Gasp! the world WILL now come to an end. Right. I was just lead in a different direction this week, and I thought I'd show you something new! Something different. Something ffffrrrrreeesh.

Soooo... I used Gina K's tutorial for polished stone. But then again I didn't. Quite. Get. There. I spritzed my paper with water (SU! Glossy Cardstock) and realized I'd messed up from the tutorial. I pretended I meant to do that. Come on - you do it too! Own up!

Next...after a cursing spell, I pulled out Tim Holtz's distressing ink pads in Concord Grape and Broken China and smushed (smooshed?) them around in the water. Still uncertain about the path I'm following, I get my felt pad drunk with alcohol (ok, so it's wood not grain alcohol - play along people!), and dropped some gold alcohol mixative ink on it. I just go to town. It's ruined anyway, right?

I hit it with the embossing gun (Lee, that means I turned on the embossing gun and dried it), and I think it's ok. But it still looks gross. I set it aside. I move on to other things (laundry, dinner, a night's good sleep). I come back the next day and touch it. It feels weird and my fingers have a golden hue to them. YUK. As I hold it over the trash bin, something inside me says, wait. What if it's just not ready to move on to the round file in the sky?? What if it's newborn, like Parker? They scrub babies before they show them off, right? Give it a chance!

Out comes a cottonball. Buffing, rubbing, gasping - oh my gosh! You were right! It was just covered in Poltergeist fluid! Suddenly it shines. The colors peek through then assert themselves! It's beautiful!! It needs something...Gina K challenge...yeah...color challenge? No...not quite. Sketch challenge? Yeah that's it!

So I color Star (Queen Kat Designs) with a combination of Copics (alcohol) and SU! (water-based) markers. I use a corner off a Basic Grey sheet, and some gold vellum that I ran through a Cuttlebug bubble folder, some Robin's Nest dew drops, a little Smmmoooch for the lips and mask, and a perfect sentiment from Gina K's Eclectic Summer sentiments stamped in Versafine pale purple ink.

My favorite color...

Is anything but PINK. So...my dear sweet friend Katy decided this week's You Shouldn't Have Left Us Alone challenge would be to use your least favorite color. Somebody save me from the madness!!!

So, Katy, dearest, is it PINK enough for you??!! Ha ha ha ahhhh.... Actually it was quite fun. I paired pink (another dear friend's favorite color) with raspberry and kiwi kiss (her un-favorite) so it's kind of like a torture card! Hey, if I gotta suffer, someone else should too!

So, reading Flopsey (My Favorite Things) was stamped in Memento tuxedo black on Pebbles white cardstock, colored with prismacolor pencils and baby oil. The sentiment was stamped with Memento Lilac Posies on pink Bazzill cardstock. The raspberry and kiwi kiss cardstock are both SU! as is the designer paper. A little Offray ribbon and some Doodlebug jewels round it off. I used the "Sketch for you to try" challenge (#19) for the layout.

Gina K and Rupa Shevde

I just love Rupa Shevde's art. She's a gal after my own heart. Caffeine! So, my step-Mom is a sweetie, and she sent me a birthday card lamenting sending me a purchased card. So, I thought, I'll send her a thank you card that she can related to. My Dad and she take a family member out to treat to Sunday breakfast. They go for coffee almost everyday.

So...what do you think? Will she like it? Would you? Here are some of the details: I used the chalk enhancer technique that Gina taught on Stamp TV to color the muffins and plate, I used Smooch for the cool beans coffee cup and the sprinkles on the muffins. I used SU! designer paper, and Gina K CS. Her CS is divine! The ribbon is Offray, and the metal buttons are from Colorbok. All ink is Memento rich cocoa.

I played the last VSN (Virtual Stamp Night) on SCS. I was very fortunate to win a Scor-Pal, and subsequently purchased a scor-pad and a scor-bug from Gina K. I used the Scor-Pal to create the diamond embossed base layer. I used the scor-bug to emboss the bottom strip of chocolate cardstock.
