Exciting News!

Yesterday I got to do something I've always wanted. I got to be part of the talented group that creates samples with brand new stamps, and then post them live at the show. My penultimate stamping genius and pusher, er, supplier, Gina K had a release last night over at Stamp TV! I got to show off and it was exhilarating! I need to give a

HUGE

shout out to Melanie Muenchinger for asking me to be a guest designer for her BRAND NEW stamp set, Basket Buddies. Melanie is ubber talented and has been my stamping IDOL for some time! I have to admit I felt like getting called on in 3rd grade to complete a math problem at the chalkboard, all nervous, wondering if your pigtails were straight... I think I like the feeling of those butterflies, tho *giggles*.

Isn't this set Ah Dooor Able?? LOVE it - perfect for all my critter card needs. This set works with other sets from her line, Spring Basket and Basket Blessings, but it's great all on it's own. For example, here I've used only stamps from this set:

I used the beautiful black and white papers provided in the Vintage Chic Stamp TV kit. I went polka dot crazy on this one because the Splitcoast Stampers are still having the Dare to Get Dirty Challenge for fan club members. Those challenges close on Monday, August 8th.

For this card, I paired Basket Buddies with Spring Basket with a ton of layers and distressing. I colored my Tim Holtz tattered flowers die with distress inks to match the Basic Grey Max & Whiskers papers. The flowers were cut out of Basic Grey Basics Manilla paper (LOVE). I love how this turned out, and I know some hero serving overseas is going to use this for that perfect letter back home.

Now... there's another secret coming soon. As soon as I can get all my projects caught up and have some camera time, you'll get to see what all I have in store for you! Thanks so much for stopping by - if you have any questions, please leave me a note.

Don't forget to play along with the Stamp TV release challenges and check out the AMAZING samples all the gals put together. Happy stamping!

Refocus!

Welcome to the H{ippity} Hop! You should be coming here from Jodi's blog. If not, start at the {ippity} blog and hop along for some stellar projects!

So here's another little project I worked up using my {ippity} stamps. I put this together after I revamped my studio supplies, getting back to MY basics.

Yes, I followed Tim Holtz's 12 days of Christmas tags, but this was a total jump off from his work. This was always the basis for designing my scrapblook pages - distressing, inks, texture, focus. I felt like in the past 8 months that I was experimenting with stamps.

Now, I feel like I have incorporated stamps as a regular tool - just like you would pick up a brad, or distress and edge on paper. Stamps are now an integral part of my work rather than a 'stamp and color' sideshow.

I use to reach for premade embellishments back 'in the day'. Now, I am confident in making my own pieces that are much closer to original art rather than an assemblage of other's productions. Happy, I am! I absolutely loved making this paper rose. Tim Holtz can show you how.

I am once again whole and happy. Have you noticed a change or a settling into your basic comfort zone? I spent the last year totally out of mine, and coming back feels so good. Tell me your story!

Do you want to share a weekly exercise to focus on incorporating your life into your art? Does your muse need a little push? Stay tuned - I will be starting something exciting just after the new year!

Next on the hop is Carolina! She's such a great crafty talent!

Cool runnings, my friends! Peace be the journey!  ~ky

Friends with Flair Friday!

Hello again! Wow, these Fridays seem to come faster and faster, don't they? I think they know it's getting closer to Christmas, and I've not started my shopping. It's a conspiracy!

I bought my husband a Teeter table. Heard of those? I'm not one to dive into every TV thing. However, I've spent enough time in physical therapy to know when something works. DH was running over 50 miles a week in his training for marathons. There were times he'd be walking along just fine, then drop to one knee unable to stand. Enter the Teeter. After about three days using it, his lower back pain, and associated failings, disappeared. Now - this is just what we experienced - I make no claims!!

The sketch for this layout was from Stamp TV. Really a simple layout, but very flexible. I hope you've enjoyed your stop here. Don't forget to look for the Unity FFF badge to enter to win free stamps!

Can I get a HIP HOP?

Sad times, these. When passing ruffians can say "Ni!" at will to old ladies... Hmmmm...I know there was a thought there before the movie interrupted...what was it... Oh I know!! This is the second to last HIP HOP EVER at Unity.

Well. You know... I'm sure Sept. 1st will bring something absolutely wonderful from the Unity crew, but this is a little like taking that security blanket away from a 2 year old! So, I will act like one! For a little while...until I see the new blankie Unity has for us...maybe...

On the Hip Hop today...the ladies were talking at one point about Ranger Distressing Inks. I was amazed, nay appalled!, that some of them didn't know how they differed from 'regular' ink, and what all they can do. I whipped up this little project to show just a smidgen of what I do with them.

This project (actually is part of a bigger project that you will see later because I know you are all such faithful readers and you would never ever want me to think you don't hang on my every word...) is a little collage that's going on a scrapbook page depicting some of the beautiful work that you all have shared with me! I'm almost as bad as that first-time mom who keeps every little scrap of paper her baby marked on forever and ever and ever. I do NOT want to part with your beautiful works of art, so they need a home!

They will live in a scrapbook album all about you peeps! Are you excited?? I am - I think this will be a fun project! Not only that, but it will document our relationships through time, what was going on in our world that caused you to send me something, something funny you said in a forum, how your kids are growing up, etc etc etc.

Here's the educational part of the program. I have a scor-mat, but if you have a piece of waxed paper, aluminum foil, basically anything non-porous you can do this neat trick. Take your Distressing ink pads, and wipe them on that non-porous surface. Use as many colors as you like. If you're a purist, you can blob down ink separately so you don't taint your yellow pad with blue, ok?

Take a water bottle, mister, anything that can put out a fine mist of water. Spritz it over your inked up non-porous surface. Working quickly use your finger to break up the solid blobs of colors - just squiggle your finger all the way acrossed, back and forth, here and there just so the inks don't have a clear "edge" to them. The finer your mist, the less you stir, and the faster you move will make a finer pattern. The longer you wait, the more you stir, the more likely you are to have blobs of color or inks that just look muddy.

Plop your paper (whatever kind you want to use, cardstock, patterned papers, glossy, etc.) face down into this watery world of color. Squish it. Peel it up and consider it. Like it? Great - let it dry or use your heat setting gun. Don't like it? Add more color, plop the paper down and repeat until you like it.

My sample here is mottled nicely, and the colors are faint hues rather than overpowering color. That, my friends, is distressing ink. A water reactive dye ink that you can do TONS of things with. Want more info? Check out Tim Holtz's website where he has a lot of tutorial videos using the distressing inks. Oh - I crumpled up the paper after it was dry and hit it with a little more distressing ink, and along the frayed edges.

Hey - I have a sneak peek coming later today. With news about a blog hop...stop back by and see what it's all about! Follow me on FaceBook too - you'll know almost instantly when I change my blog!

Happy hangover! Ta for now, ~ky

Growing in Unity Day 2

Hello everyone! This is a double post day. If you're looking for

LENNY LOADER (Sunshine's Stamp Creations) SCROLL DOWN

This is my second day of Growing in Unity. Remember to leave a comment for me each day so I can include you in the drawing on Thursday for a single of your choice from Unity!

I really appreciate the focus Angela has on scripture and meaningful quotes. I made this page for my scripture study scrapbook. It uses the scripture Wait for the Lord from the Something Within set. The paper is from Creative Imaginations, and Bazzill cardstock. I love the look of distressing on paper - it reminds me of an old, worn, well loved Bible!

I hope this entry helps to brighten your day. Don't forget to be back tomorrow for Day 3!

Welcome to the Bunny Nest! I host rescued animals in a small in-home setting. Currently, I host 3 bunnies and 2 kitties. These animals will be socialized and housed for the entirety of their lives in my home. They inspire my crafts, and I use any proceeds to pay for their needs. Thanks for visiting!
